I’ve always want to own an old house. Ever since my friend, Marcy and I worked on fixing up her old Craftsman bungalows and cottages in the Seventies, I’ve wanted one of my own. So, finally, this is my chance. It just might be my last chance.
In fact, the house we own now is only the second house I’ve ever owned. This house we (had) built in 2003-04. Many of its characteristics are that of an older house, because that’s how we wanted it. It has smaller rooms than many of the houses that are being built today, but still has all of the amenities and benefits of a new build—like double-insulated windows, insulation, etc. It has a fireplace that I designed based on those of houses of the 20’s and 30’s I’d seen in books, though simplified and brought up-to-date with gas logs instead of being wood-burning.
But still, I really would like the chance to fix up an old house. And that’s what I’m going to do.
