Today we got new carpet installed on the stairs! Yippee. Small things can make you very happy…and today I’m happy.
Here’s how they looked before.

The carpet was who knows how old—I’m guessing 20 or 30 years. It was like indoor/outdoor carpet that was glued to the stairs and it was yucky, dirty and worn.
So yesterday morning I stripped all the carpet off, leaving behind the yellow rubber backing still stuck to the stair treads and risers. I spent the rest of the day scraping the yellow rubber off, as much as would come off anyway, and just left the rest to be covered by the new carpeting.

Here’s how the stairs look now.
![There's Abbie. She likes the new carpet AND padding which makes coming down much easier for her.](https://bluehouseonmain.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/IMG_0122-stair-carpet-768x1024.jpg)
We were worried about the squeakiness of the stairs—it was pretty bad. But with the new carpet and pad, the squeaks are considerably less noisy. Another small victory! 🙂
